Welcome to the American West Heritage Wiki!
This site is for planners and interested onlookers for the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville, Utah. A wiki is an online tool that allows users to read, edit and refine its pages freely. Perhaps the most famous example of a wiki is Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia that is edited by thousands of people all over the world. We won't be creating an encyclopedia, per se, but in a sense, we are creating a "handbook" or "workbook" for planning and getting things done and accomplishing the various tasks and goals we have for coming years.
This workbook could appear like an encyclopedia at times, but could also include things like:
- Tasks and responsibilities
- Descriptions of events for public relations and marketing
- Descriptions of event components and their subcomponents
- Suggestions for accomplishing tasks
- Timelines for accomplishing tasks
- Brainstorming of ideas relating to events and activities
- Guidelines for authenticity
- Marketing ideas
- Etc.
Think of this wiki as the Corn Crib—except that we can actually find things, edit the material, track changes, brainstorm, give and accept assignments, and more—and from anywhere in the world (the Corn Crib is only accessible while at the Heritage Center). The one drawback to this wiki is that we can't really upload files, such as an Excel file or Word file.
This American West Heritage Center wiki will allow Heritage Center staff, volunteers, and planners to share and refine ideas, track changes to events, and build a database of knowledge about our various activities, events, and the old West. As we explore our ideas, we can add and change content here to reflect our new directions and make good use of our time and resources.
Some examples of what we can do include:
- Plan and manage events and activities
- Share knowledge of the West, and particularly of the northern Utah region as we create and refine articles and pages about specific topics such as the "fur trade" or "gunfighters"
One good way to start is to click on "List all pages" in the navigation bar at left, or click on any of the tags (the jumble of words at left) that are key words to the wiki pages.
Enjoy!
