Volunteer Orientation

This page discusses the plans for the 2007 Volunteer Orientation. Feel free to join the site (see link at left) and chime in with your ideas!

Needs for 2007

  • Focus needs to be on reaching out and being engaging rather than on accuracy. They'll learn the scripts and accuracy as they do it.
  • We need excellent examples of each site in action for the volunteers present to see.
  • We need to encourage them to attend the conference in SLC on Mar. 9-10.
  • No more than 2 hours long!—and it should be fun!

Ideas

  • In 'round robin' fashion, visitors could be taken to several different areas to experience and get an overview of each interpretive site, plus an additional session for things like planning opportunities, behind the scenes work, and office work.
  • There should be hands-on things to do such as crafts or skills learned.
  • It should be a fun and engaging experience for the whole family.
  • The orientation should only orientate volunteers. We don't need to train them at this point.
  • This is the opportunity to get folks really excited about volunteering!
